AWKWARD: Because Perfection is Boring

  1. Why AWKWARD matters.

AWKWARD, the magazine for the new woman who’s not afraid to share her passion, ideas, and ambitions with the world. She’s funny, she’s smart, she’s witty, and she’s well dressed. But, don’t get her wrong. She’s not perfect.

Awkward is an experiment of expression, where young, passionate women are encouraged to express their ideas in an honest and intellectually stimulating forum.

Being AWKWARD is about embracing those moments in life where you just feel, well, awkward.

It is for the woman who doesn’t want to read about how to lose five pounds and could care less about the latest shade of nail polish.

She’s too busy leaving her mark in the world to read women’s magazines that fuel insecurity and feelings of inadaquecy. And she doesn’t take herself so damn seriously.

This is all OK. Because perfection is boring, and AWKWARD is awesome.

  2. Meet Erin E (left) and Sammy D (right)
They’re smart, witty and they love to throw back a good beer. Sammy prefers cider, Erin is all about Bud Light.
WEST COAST meets EAST COAST
It all began over a discussion at a bar (with beer, of course) at Pianos in the Lower East Side. Erin was interning at ESPN the magazine; and Sammy at SELF.
Seattle born-and-raised Erin used words like “rad” and “wicked.”
Sammy hails from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, home of farms, cows and the Amish. Her hometown niceness has stuck. She may be the nicest girl in NYC.
They were fed up with women’s magazines that didn’t stimulate them intellectually. They were reading the NY Times and Slate.com and logging onto College Humor for their “lol” fix.
AWKWARD is a forum about ideas, passions and convictions. It’s where you don’t have to take yourself seriously. Where you can high-five and miss (as seen above).
Where you should feel completely comfortable with just being yourself cause hey, life is AWKWARD. And perfection is boring. Who really likes perfect people anyway?
Sammy’s thong is hanging out in this picture. Erin isn’t wearing any pants.
We are your AWKWARD girls. We hope you join us in our journey.
