I was watching the “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” esque game show, “Password,” hosted by the omniscient Regis Philbin, and realize the game is actually an extended metaphor about life for these reasons:
1. The show: You play with a partner. Real life: We (try) to find a partner we can play with for life. Or not, because 2. The show: Halfway through, you can swap out your partner for a new one. Real life: You can swap out your partner for a new one ,any time.
2. The show: The goal is to give your partner clues, with the hopes they get the word right. Real life: We give our partner clues, with the hopes they get the dinner plans right
3. The show: You win more money if you and your partner think the same and share some kind of weird, ESP-esque connection. Real life: You wish you had ESP, so you wouldn’t keep messing up the dinner plans.
4. The show: You want to win money. Real life: You want to win money
5. The show: Regis keeps making weird sexual references. Real life: My dad keeps making weird, sexual references.
